lord mayor 's show

TODAY IS THE LORD MAYOR'S SHOW-The Lord Mayor’s procession winds through nearly 800 years of London’s history, marching unscathed through everything from the black death to the blitz. In the 17th century it was inconvenienced by the building site that would later become St Paul’s Cathedral
The modern procession is over three miles long – 1.3 miles longer than the route it follows – and starts at 11am after an RAF flypast. It travels from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice, where the Lord Mayor takes an oath of allegiance to the sovereign before the Lord Chief Justice and the judges of the Queen’s Bench Division. The procession sets off on the return journey from Victoria Embankment to Mansion House at 2pm and returns to Mansion House at about 4, then the day finishes with one of London’s grandest firework displays at 5 o’clock from a barge moored in the Thames between Blackfriars and Waterloo bridges.

Dear friend,
We all know how important it is that we build up Party membership and in particular encourage more young people to join and campaign with us for change.Young members are important to our Party, not only for their hard work with our campaign work on the ground but also to help shape our future plans. To help us recruit the next generation of Labour Party members we are introducing a new introductory £1 membership rate for all young people under the age of 27.I will be launching this new offer in December with representatives of Young Labour, Labour Students, young trade union members and Dawn Butler MP, Labour's Vice Chair for Young People. There will also be launches of our Young Members rate in every region, and in Scotland and Wales so that young people all over Britain know we are inviting them to join the party and help us shape the future. Please don't hesitate to email me if you would like to find out more or give me your thoughts on how we can attract more young members to join the Party.
